In the heart of ancient Alexandria, where archaeological monuments are scattered among narrow alleys and heritage buildings, stands the Ibn al-Nabih cistern, one of the oldest and most important examples of Islamic architectural genius, which has stood for nearly 600 years.
In his latest exhibition, The Golden Smile, Shadi Habiba relied on technology to create something new and different from an artistic perspective, blending digital and natural collage. Collage is a visual art form that involves assembling overlapping pieces to form a beautiful work of art. These pieces can be paper, fabric, or any other malleable material. To create a collage, these materials must be cut and arranged in a specific way and then glued to the surface on which the artwork is being created.
In the heart of Alexandria’s old streets, specifically on Sultan Hussein Street, stands a unique heritage building, the palace of English businessman Oswald Viny, which is about to begin a new chapter in its history. The Egyptian Ministry of Culture has announced that the building will be converted into an art center and museum under the supervision of the Fine Arts Sector, in cooperation with the National Bank, the owner of the property, which has been keen to preserve and restore it in a manner befitting its architectural and historical value.
“In the Presence of the Maqam”: A Research Project to Document the Memory of the Mariout Lake Region
The French Cultural Institute in Alexandria organized an evening event entitled “In the Presence of the Maqam,” which presented the results of a scientific research project documenting the shrines and maqams in the Lake Mariout area. The project was carried out by the French Center for Alexandrian Studies in collaboration with photographer Samar Bayoumi and with the support of the British Barakat Trust.
